Yoganathan Ratheesan, 34, CEO of Lebara Group launched London-based telecoms company Lebara in 2001, and started selling international telephone calling cards. Lebara has moved into the mobile phone business, supplying cheap calls. Demand from an increasingly international population wanting to use mobiles for communicating with friends and family abroad has boosted sales from £946,000 in 2002 to £49.5m in 2007, when it made a £203,000 profit. In 2007, it went into partnership with Vodafone. We value the company at £35m and Ratheesan owns it all. In 2009, Lebara generates annual sales in excess of €371 million operating as a provider of international wholesale minutes and as a virtual mobile operator (MVNO).
