EPO grants italian MVNO PosteMobile patent for: Method based on a SIM Card performing services with high security features


The European Patent Office (EPO) offers inventors a uniform application procedure which enables companies to seek patent protection in up to 40 European countries has recognised Postemobile, a MVNO in Italy aka The Italian Post Office, the patent for for its secure mechanism allowing users to perform banking, financial and postal transactions, under the heading ‘Method based on a SIM Card performing services with high security features’.

The recognition of the patent gives Postemobile the intellectual property rights on the system developed and opens new business scenarios. From the operational point of view, in fact, the system of sending in information security intended to identify with certainty the sender and the content of the message sent, it is applicable to Poste Mobile (and only if authorized by the latter, by a third party) even on technologies and tools, different from the SIM card.

The patent covers the whole process of authentication of the SIM card holder from from authentication of the SIM cardholder, to generating access codes, to data transmission and transaction outcome, to and from the banking/finance platforms via an encrypted and digitally signed SIM.

The EPO patent is recogned in the 34 EPO member countries (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Switzerland / Liechtenstein, Cyprus, Czech Czech, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Finland, France, Great Britain, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Malta, Monaco, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia and Turkey).
