Quortus, virtual core
Customizable feature pack offers total architectural flexibility and “pay-as-you grow” business model
Quortus today announced the release of a flexible, configurable virtual cellular core network solution targeted specifically at the needs of Mobile Virtual Network Operators and Mobile Virtual Network Enablers (MNVOs/MVNEs).
Based on the company’s ECX Core scalable, multi-standard core network software; this new offering gives MVNOs and MVNEs access to solutions with the exact scale and feature set they need to implement innovative services, while integrating efficiently with third-party network infrastructure.
Quortus’ MVNO-oriented solutions have already been successfully deployed at scale by Swiss communications provider Telecom26, providing underlying network intelligence and enabling an “anywhere-you-go” service that gives customers access to over 700 global networks via a single SIM.
“MVNOs are on a constant quest to differentiate,” said Paul Trubridge, Quortus’ head of product management. “They’re coming to us with a wide variety of requirements, and an equally wide variety of technical constraints from their infrastructure partners. We’re offering total flexibility, with a solution that ranges from simple subscriber management via an HSS/HLR module, all the way to a complete set of management and gateway modules, including roaming and billing interfaces. Our products are scalable, so you can ‘pay as you grow’; and we can build multi-standard GSM/3G/LTE solutions.”
ECX Core supports embedded, server or cloud-based (NFV) implementations, leveraging industry partnerships such as Quortus’ recently announced co-operation with Expeto, which enables a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) operating model. Quortus offers a variety of commercial packages including connected user-based pricing, making it economically viable to support anything from a handful of users up to 1M connections – suitable for emerging IoT architectures. Options include neutral hosted RAN support, and high-availability / redundant operation.
The new offering from Quortus allows MVNOs greater agility to rapidly deploy services and service enhancements. It includes a full range of standards-based operations and maintenance (O&M) features making it easy to integrate with a higher-level operations support system (OSS). Advanced roaming features such as IMSI steering give the MVNO/MVNE maximum flexibility, and the opportunity to combine revenue generation with outstanding customer experience.
MVNO services encompass voice, data, SMS, mobile broadband and machine-to-machine (M2M) platforms, and their solutions have to span a wide array of offerings and provide end-to-end services to remain competitive in the marketplace. All of this must be achieved while piggybacking on top of network infrastructure that belongs to a third party – namely, a carrier that is itself under strain from constantly shifting market forces. As a result, MVNOs and MVNEs must be dynamic and proactive in their approaches in order to succeed.
Quortus enables flexible, agile mobile communications networks that provide a foundation for innovative services tailored to a diverse range of end customers. Its award winning EdgeCentrix (ECX) virtualized mobile core solutions help increase operator margin and ‘stickiness’. They interwork gracefully with existing mobile networks, with small cell and HetNet architectures and with standard IT infrastructure, to create truly integrated communications platforms. Quortus’ ECX products are highly scalable and can be hosted anywhere – in the cloud, at the network edge, or deeply embedded alongside a cellular radio in a single-chip implementation.
